About me

new-twitter-feb14I am an accomplished communicator and journalist with over a decade of experience creating award-winning content for audiences across multiple platforms.

With a proven track record developing communications for projects, events, websites, and social-media platforms, I know how to strengthen relationships, motivate others, and build brands among targeted audiences. My specialties include: magazines, social media, blogging, marketing, events, feature writing, communications, art direction.

From 2006 to 2017, I was an editor at Metro Guide Publishing, Atlantic Canada’s largest magazine publishing house. I was editor of East Coast Living, a nationally award-winning homes magazine, overseeing its print and online platforms and the engagement and growth of all social-media content, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I enjoyed collaborating with diverse teams of editorial and design staff, including freelance writers and photographers located across Atlantic Canada. In addition, I helped organize Dine By Design East (2013 to 2015), East Coast Living’s successful volunteer-driven fundraiser for design education at NSCAD University.

I also edited Where Halifax, a monthly magazine for visitors that gave inspiring information about what to see, do, buy, and eat in Halifax and its surrounding communities. In addition, I edited Chamber Vision, VoxMeDAL, Nova Scotia’s regional shore guides and was a contributing editor for the Greater Halifax Visitor Guide and the Dine Nova Scotia Guide. I also contributed stories, editing, and photography to Halifax Magazine, Port of Halifax, My Halifax Experience, Bedford Magazine, Our Children,  plus other publications. Background and education:
I started off studying fine art and digital-media design, and hold a diploma in Digital Animation from NSCC (2001).  I also hold a BA (Honours, 2004) and an MA in English (2005) from Acadia University. My passion for communication and storytelling began at Acadia where I edited the student newspaper, the Athenaeum, and was a reporter for the regional paper, the Advertiser. I also worked as an instructional designer and trainer with the Acadia Institute for Teaching and Technology.

I serve on the board of the Halifax Community Learning Network, a non-profit group providing adult literacy and ESL services in public libraries. Born and raised in the Annapolis Valley, I love fussing over my backyard garden, cruising past traffic jams on my bike, and attempting to throw supper together out of thin air. I live in North End Halifax with my husband and two daughters.
